ROCKIN’ THE UKE
Community Music, Inc. ® ©2011
This is the very first Uke-centric CD by the Grammy-winning duo. Marcy learned the title track, “ROCKIN THE UKE”, directly from the “Wizard of the Strings” himself, Roy Smeck. There’s a lush cover of the Delmore Brothers 1949 hit, “Blues Stay Away From Me”, a classy cover of the jazzy “Comes Love” and a masterful rendition of “Dark Eyes”, influenced by Django Reinhardt. Cathy’s original song “It’s A Ukulele” combines clever wordplay with a fingerbusting clawhammer uke instrumental break, supported by Marcy’s unique cello banjo playing. Marcy adds a few stellar fingerpicking solos. The duo added a few favorites from past recordings-“Bye,Bye Blackbird/Red Red Robin Medley” from a 1992 recording and a big band on the classic “Hukilau Song” from the GRAMMY winning “cELLAbration: A Tribute to Ella Jenkins” CD.
