Cathy Fink and Marcy Marxer : 2X GRAMMY Award Winners Cathy Fink & Marcy Marxer know how to Swing It! Featuring Marcy’s tasty lead guitar work, Cathy’s rhythm chops and harmony vocals, the duo plays Western Swing a la Patsy Montana, Django Reinhardt classics, a dab of the Great American Songbook and original tunes. Past performances include the Kennedy Center’s Women in Jazz Festival, Takoma Park Jazz Festival, performances with the Army Blues Jazz Ensemble and the Duke Ellington Jazz Festival. This well homed duo will delight the crowd with elegance. Marcy is a top instructor on Swing Guitar and Swing Ukulele at www.Truefire.com and Homespun.com. Cathy provides a solid swing rhythm section. Their new CD, “WAHOO”, includes several swing songs as do many of their 47 other recordings. You read it right, a total of 48 recordings.

Baltimore Swing Drop : Modern jazz in acoustic setting – with rhythm section consisting of resonator guitar and upright bass, Baltimore Swing Drop employs acoustic instrumentation from pre-amplification hot jazz era to explore modern swing, jazz and bebop concepts.

Visit their website at : baltimoreswingdrop.com

Ultrafaux : “Ultrafaux stands out from all of the other Django Reinhardt-inspired bands because they perform original material: strong tunes played by a hot band.” – Tom Cole NPR and WPFW

“Tangent sees Ultrafaux exploring a more nuanced, contemporary sound, rounded out by a cast of virtuoso players. True to the album’s name, songs like “Jaguar” and “Convergence” often veer into unexpewhich cted and rich sonic territory. Just when you think you’ve got this band pegged, they surprise you. This is some of their most adventurous and beguiling music yet.” – Sam Sessa WTMD

Cathy & Marcy are Featured Performers for the Porch Pride Online Festival @ Online Event- Porch Pride: A Bluegrass Pride Queer-antine Festival
Jun 28 @ 5:00 PM

Porch Pride: A Bluegrass Pride Queer-antine Festival is a digital festival featuring more than 10 hours of live music over the course of Pride weekend, June 27-28, 2020. Our purpose is to highlight and showcase LGBT+ roots musicians, while also generating financial support for them as they navigate the new non-existent performance landscape, all while providing a gathering space for our community during these isolating times.

Dates: June 27-28, 2020
Start Time: 1:00 PM PDT (see full schedule below)
Suggested Donation: $10 per set

What the world needs now is a weekend of great music and even better community. We didn’t want anyone to miss out on that experience because of their own financial circumstances, so we’re making the whole weekend festival completely free to attend. That means we’re counting on donations from fans, friends, and family like you to help us support musicians in need.

We’re suggesting a $10 donation, but feel free to donate more if you’re enjoying the show! All proceeds — including donations made during the festival and through the end of Pride month — will be shared evenly between the artists playing the festival and Bluegrass Pride, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. These funds will go towards supporting our ongoing, year-round operations, allowing us to continue hosting paid performance opportunities for artists during these uncertain times, while also investing in long-term resources that will benefit both musicians and fans beyond the pandemic (such as the forthcoming Safe Venue Directory), helping to create a safer, more inclusive bluegrass community for all.

Introduction to Chord Melody on Ukulele w/Marcy @ VIRTUAL - Old Town School of Folk Music | Chicago | Illinois | United States

Chord melody is a style of playing that turns a melody into a singing series of chords. It’s a fun style for playing solo, making one person sound like a full band, or for working with ensembles. As a technique that players can learn and apply to many kinds of music, chord melody builds a deeper relationship between players and their instruments.

$180 – sliding scale available, simply email info@cathymarcy.com

Play well with others! In this uniquely designed class, confident beginners will get the focused first half hour of the lesson and then they are encouraged to “sit in” on the rest of the lesson which will move at a faster pace.

From 7:30-8pm, Confident Beginners will primarily be learning to hold down the rhythm section. Other participants are welcome to join in learning the chord progressions at a slower pace.

From 8pm-9:00pm, Intermediate and Advanced parts of the repertoire will be taught. These will become multi-part leads and for more advanced players, may also have spaces for solos.

Repertoire will tentatively be:

Don’t Fence Me In
Blue Skies
Five Foor Two

Each student will get two practice rhythm tracks for each selection, one at a slower tempo and one at performance tempo. Chord charts and lyrics will also be provided via PDF.  Classes will be taught via Zoom and archived online for viewing by participants.

For those who can & want to have a Virtual Performance, I will send instructions for making a video or your part and sending it to a video editor. Virtual class performance will be streamed on Facebook and YouTube date TBD, along with some surprises.

Students who want personalized instruction on this repertoire may book solo 30 minute zoom sessions with Marcy for $25 each.
