For more than 10 years, Strathmore has proudly supported the budding careers of musicians through our highly regarded Artist in Residence (AIR) program. Join the AIR class of 2018 for their debut concert at AMP. All 6 class members and their mentors take the stage for an unforgettable evening of cross-genre collaboration featuring the stars of tomorrow!

These four women are celebrated artists of multiple banjo styles: Cathy Fink’s clawhammer genius, Hilary Hawke’s bluegrass/ old time mastery, Marcy Marxer’s cello banjo and banjo ukulele innovations; and Cynthia Sayer’s jazz banjo virtuosity. They have individually garnered numerous honors including Grammy Awards, induction into the American Banjo Hall Of Fame, appearances ranging from Broadway to The White House, Merlefest to the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, and concerts and educational programs worldwide. Together for the first time, these artists will weave in and out of collaborations and solos from Swing Classics to Appalachian Traditions, Original compositions, and more. Don’t miss it!

Put a little fiddle in your holiday tradition with a spectrum of American folksong!
Strathmore Children’s Chorus collaborates with Grammy winners Cathy Fink and Marcy Marxer on folk arrangements of holiday gems that celebrate the spirit of the season, including the spiritual “Children Go Where I Send Thee,” “Hine Ma Tov,” “Beautiful Star of Bethlehem,” and “The Most Wonderful Time of the Year,” plus Appalachian tunes and more. The chorus is accompanied by a stellar lineup of roots musicians on guitar, banjo, fiddle, and hammered dulcimer.
Django for Uke Class – Marcy Marxer (Advanced via Zoom)
Tuesdays, Sept 8 – Oct 13This class will explore the style of Jazz Music popularized by Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli.
We will watch videos and listen to recordings for inspiration, then play the Chords and Melodies line by line. We will play the melodies of the pieces with lines inspired by Django and Stephane but will not play the exact solos that Django played on the guitar.
Lessons will be held on ZOOM and will be recorded and stored in a class Dropbox Folder for reference.
