Cathy & Marcy’s Old Time Coalition has grown out of a mutual love of Appalachian music
and dance, and deep friendships built over the past twenty years. Picture the energy and passion
of a fiddle, five-string banjo, guitar, mandolin or cello banjo and harmony singing in a late night
session accompanied by the energetic percussion of feet on a board. Now take that long time
tradition off the front porch and put it on stage paying tribute to the past, present and future
conversations between tradition and contemporary music and performance values. Our mission
as a band is to share the love of this social music and dance in concerts, workshops and
community outreach. We are ambassadors of this music and dance tradition.

GRAMMY winners Cathy Fink & Marcy Marxer are a powerhouse of sound connected to a
love of community and ability to apply art and music to their passion as “social music
conductors.” Through the years they have broken many a glass ceiling opening the doors for next
generations. In 1980 Cathy was the first woman to win the West Virginia State Banjo Contest
and in 2018 took the same honor at the Clifftop Appalachian Stringband Festival. Marcy’s
mastery and versatility on guitar, cello banjo, mandolin, ukulele and other instruments is
unparalleled. Together they have released over fifty recordings and hundreds of instructional
videos and projects. They were featured in the “I’ve Endured: Women in Old Time Music”
exhibit at the Birthplace of Country Music Museum.

Rachel Eddy is a native of West Virginia who grew up in a musical family steeped in the
traditions of Appalachian music and dance. They are known throughout the world as both a
dynamic, emotionally powerful performer and an engaging, thoughtful teacher. Rachel’s soulful
singing and multi-instrumental finesse—including fiddle, banjo, guitar, and mandolin—may be
heard on numerous solo and collaborative recordings as well as at dances and jam sessions,
where Rachel is dedicated to fostering community and sharing a love of music with others. They
are the director of the Blue Ridge Old Time Week in Mars Hill, NC and teach annually at music
camps across the US and UK.

Becky Hill is a sought after percussive dancer, Appalachian square dance caller, choreographer,
and educator, dedicated to creating innovative choreography tethered to traditional music and
dance. She has performed with Footworks Percussive Dance Ensemble, Rhythm in Shoes and
Good Foot Dance Company. Becky earned her MFA in Dance at University of Maryland College
Park in 2022. Her choreography has been featured at Jacob's Pillow, the John F. Kennedy Center
and Wheatland Music Festival. Becky was a 2018 OneBeat Fellow; an Artist-in-Residence at
The Music Center at Strathmore in 2021, John C. Campbell Folk School in 2022, Hambidge
Center for the Arts & Sciences and Loghaven in 2023 and is a 2024 OneBeat Balkans Fellow.
