CATHY & MARCY  LINK TO DANCIN’ IN THE KITCHEN HERE

We’ve recorded a brand new album called, “DANCIN’ IN THE KITCHEN” that celebrates ALL of our real families. Families can have one parent, two parents, grandparents, gay parents, gay kids, cousins and uncles, adoptive families, mixed race families, identical twins, blended families, pets and everything you can think of. Families are bound by love, and this music celebrates that love and the diversity we see in the world.

We gathered some amazing musical friends, including cowboy yodelers RIDERS IN THE SKY, Celtic divas CHERISH THE LADIES, Cajun all stars the SAVOY FAMILY BAND, identical twins THE CANOTE BROTHERS, R&B heroes the TOMMY LEPSON BAND, and more. We’ve written new songs, including a song co-written with Cathy & Woody Guthrie. There are songs by John McCutcheon, Justin Roberts, Sue Ennis, Fred Small and two hilarious stories by Cathy & Andy Offutt Irwin.

Why this album?  In 1986, Marlo Thomas released the amazing, “Free to Be…A Family”. In the book that accompanied the CD, she spoke of a family being “a feeling of belonging”. Twenty-six years later, the topic is more relevant than ever. We felt it was time for a fresh repertoire of songs that every family could relate to in the same spirit-with love, humor, music, stories and respect.

Where does the money go?Great question. We paid the musicians, the studios and the engineers. We still need to pay the art director, manufacturing, publicist, media coordinator, etc. Once upon a time, record labels did that for indie artists like us, but now, it’s up to us to take care of all sides of the business. One good part of that is we have 100% control of the music and we love that. Another good part is that you can become part of the process, and we love that too.

Why Kickstarter? There are a few things we love about this business model:1) Fan engagement- it’s really fun to hear from fans and involve them in our work. We hear from folks all the time who brought their kids to our shows years ago, who came to our shows as kids and now bring their own kids, and who are just discovering us for the first time. We also look forward to making new friends and fans with the outreach that both kickstarter, and the recording can do. When we help families communicate with our music, we are happy.

2) Distribution- pre-selling CD’s is a great new distribution system. The music goes directly to people who helped fund it. It’s personal.

When do we get the album and rewards?

We expect to release “Dancin’ In The Kitchen” around February 15, 2015 and you’ll be FIRST on your block to get it! Rewards too!
